• Each tournament has just 54 holes, as opposed to 72 holes at a regular tournament. That gives LIV Golf its name, as LIV is the Roman numeral for 54.
• Every tournament features 48 players, divided into 12 teams: 4 Aces GC, Cleeks GC, Crusher GC, Fireball GC, HY Flyers GC, Iron Heads GC, Majesticks GC, Niblicks GC, Punch GC, Smash GC, Stinger GC and Torque GC. 
• The prize purse for most events is $20 million for individual players and $5 million for teams, although it increases at certain tournaments. The total prize money for the season is $405 million.
• There are no cuts, and the same players are expected to compete at each tournament. Each round gets underway with a shotgun start.

LIV Golf Players List – Notable Names 

Several famous players have joined Mickelson in defecting to LIV Golf over the past year. Many of them were older players, but it pulled off a significant coup by signing Cameron Smith just after his triumph at the 2022 Open Championship. These are now the leading lights playing their trade in the upstart league:

• Phil Mickelson | Lefty has won six major championships. The only one missing from his collection is the US Open, having finished runner-up six times. He won 45 PGA Tour events before joining LIV Golf.
• Dustin Johnson | DJ has been the world’s No. 1 ranked player for 130 weeks in total throughout his career, which has seen him win 24 PGA Tour events, nine European Tour events, the 2016 US Open and the 2020 Masters at Augusta.
• Brooks Koepka | The Florida native won back to back US Open titles in 2017 and 2018, and he also clinched consecutive PGA Championships in 2018 and 2019. He spent 47 weeks as world No. 1 between 2018 and 2019.
• Bryson DeChambeau | The colorful star is famed for his long drives and bulky frame, which helped him win the US Open in 2020.
• Cameron Smith | The Australian golfer was named PGA Player of the Year in 2022 after winning The Open Championship, the Players Championship and the Sentry Tournament of Champions. He won his first LIV Golf event after signing in 2022.
• Patrick Reed | Reed earned the nickname Captain America on the back of his performances at the Ryder Cup. He also won the Masters in 2018.
• Sergio Garcia | The Spaniard has 11 PGA Tour wins and 16 European Tour victories under his belt, while he also won the Masters in 2017. He has spent more than 450 weeks in the top 10 of the world rankings.
• Charl Schwartzel | The South African golfer won the Masters in 2011. He has 16 professional wins throughout his career, and he clinched the inaugural LIV Golf tournament in London in June 2022.

LIV Golf Courses 2023

The organizers have only released details of seven tournaments for the season so far, and they will take place at some of the world’s most spectacular courses:

• Mayakoba | El Camaleón Golf Course straddles the tranquil oceanfront of Riviera Maya in Mexico, nestled amid lagoons and jungle.
• Tucson | The Gallery Golf Club is the No. 1 ranked course in Southern Arizona, according to Golf Digest, and it is famous for having a 725-yard ninth hole, making it the longest par five in North America.
• Adelaide | The Grange Golf Club in Southern Australia has previously hosted major professional events including the West Lakes Classic. This will be the first time LIV Golf has been held in Australia.
• Singapore | Sentosa Golf Club is located on the Singapore Strait, with views of the city’s famous skyscrapers providing the backdrop.
• Tulsa | Cedar Ridge is located on the outskirts of Tulsa, Oklahoma, midway between Broken Arrow and Jenks. It is famous for its manicured lawns and tough parkland layout.
• Valderrama | Real Club Valderrama in Spain is one of the world’s most famous golf courses, having hosted the 1997 Ryder Cup and various European Tour events. Its signature hole is the four, a par five with a pond located to the right of the two-tiered green.
• Greenbrier | Jack Nicklaus redesigned The Greenbrier course in West Virginia in preparation for the 1977 Ryder Cup. It also has a famous hotel, plus a retail sportsbook run by FanDuel.

How to Watch LIV Golf Tour

The CW network has agreed a deal to broadcast the LIV Golf League in the United States. In 2022, your only option was to stream it on YouTube or via the official app, but it will now finally arrive on American TV.

It was seen as an important step for the long-term viability of the upstart series, even if the CW is not a traditional destination for sports fans. “I’d rather be live broadcast on the CW and streamed on their app than just putting my events on YouTube without any kind of promotion, so by definition it has to improve their audience,” John Kosner, a former ESPN executive turned industry consultant, told the Washington Post.

However, he warned that it will not necessarily “move the needle,” as LIV the CW is not a natural fit for professional golf. Norman contended that the CW will “provide accessibility for our fans and maximum exposure for our athletes and partners as their reach includes more than 120 million households across the United States.”
